A beautiful, small island in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of
Africa, Mauritius is a land of cultural contrasts. The island is a melting pot
of Indian, French, African Creole and Chinese immigrants, creating one of the
most unique and fascinating cultures in the world.
Through this website, you'll be able to explore some of the most beautiful
places in Mauritius, as well as see a glimpse of its culture and people. Along
with the diary I kept during my visit to Mauritius, you can also see photos,
videos, and panoramic Quicktime VR files. I hope you enjoy your virtual visit to
Mauritius!
Mauritius is certainly the most unusual country I've ever been to. The reason
why I got there is even more unusual. Anyway that is a very long story which is
not the topic of my homepage.
So about Mauritius. In case you don't know it's a small island in the Indian
ocean somewhere near Madagascar. It's population consists of 4 groups: Indians,
Africans, Chinese and Europeans (French). They all leave very peacefully with
each other and are very (VERY) hospitable. Though Mauritius is quite small (it's
area is about 2000 sq. km) its views can be very different: mountains, vast
sugar cane fields, tropical forests and of course beautiful beaches! I was in
Mauritius in July, 2000. It's the middle of winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
But the weather couldn't be compared with Russian winter. It was always warm...
sometimes even hot (except some towns in central part of the island).
Enjoy the pictures and don't forget to look at the 2nd page that consists of sea
views. Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius

the world)
And this photo was taken in botanical gardens of Curepipe (much smaller ones)

think it's a bit far away
